Translation Role in SEO!

Written by Abdelrahman Abdalla on 26 August 2012.

Translation--SEOIn the past two decades, Internet has been the most important and used technology, where there has been a significant revolution in the way we do business. No company can ignore the importance of being on the internet in order to succeed in the national and international marketplace. There is an amazingly big scope for development in the sector. In 2011, more than 80% of the internet was in English, yet only about 26% of internet users are native English speakers. These statistics give us a clear indication of the amount of developmental work which will inevitably be needed over the coming years to translate the huge amount of contents of the internet. It is of course a very good thing that you translate your website into the major languages, but you need it to take a place in the Search Engine Ranking in order to get the best benefit from translation in the first place.

Many companies make serious errors when translating their websites and spend a large amount of money without an SEO objective in mind, leaving most of their translated content ineffective. If you conjunct the translation and SEO projects, you can avoid a large amount of additional investment and cost. The two most important things in SEO are the website design and content creation. After the expected SEO design of the source website is created successfully and the optimized source content uploaded, we can go forward for translation and optimization of the different language versions of the website. There are a lot of translation services companies that offer package of SEO and translation services together. But what does it include?

As the first step, the keywords must be included in the translated language. This is one of the most important parts of the project and it depends very much on the budget of the company. Since it is a new and very important sector, most of the companies outsource their SEO needs and undoubtedly, it is very expensive. You should bear in mind that a huge number of keywords have already been used and the important information for you is that if you do not have the budget enough for an effective linking campaign for a very competitive keyword, there is no good reason to hanker after that keyword.  Most of the experienced SEO consultants will advise their clients to invest for the keywords they can achieve within their budget so that the clients can find a niche within their market. The competitiveness or profitability of certain keywords should be judged before investing in them.

After the keywords have been set up for each page, it is very important that the translation must be done with SEO in mind.  In other words, a certain keyword must be set up in certain places on a web page without being mentioned too often because that could result in penalization by search engines. Some SEO experts suggest that the keywords should be set up in the title once, description and body twice, and the all tags. However, this is never a protocol and one must bear in mind that the search engines are continuously changing their algorithms and the search criteria. The set up a keyword in certain places can often result in very cumbersome translation. However, a flawless translation that reads well with the keyword in right place is a very good skill in itself and translation services companies that also offer SEO can gain the right to charge a little bit extra for the SEO translation.

Once you have achieved the expected web design and standard translated contents have been uploaded, you can begin the SEO process. Then you have to get internal links from other places on the World Wide Web. In brief, a translation and SEO project is a huge financial commitment. If you want to get the best results, you must combine the translation of the contents of your website with SEO issues. However, translation in association with SEO in mind essentially requires a very conscious mindset. You also have to bear in mind that SEO is a continuous project that the website owner always has to remain on top of.  If you attach SEO with your translation project, the cost of maintenance of your website will be lessened by a very good figure.
